Scale
In the singular, among the plural
Hi friend,
I’ve been neglecting this wordy word space, but today I have some words to go here.
in terms of scale
A single scale on a snake doesn’t even know if it’s venomous.
A single scale simply exists in its shade of brown
nuzzled up against its neighbor and maybe some leaves.
A single scale doesn’t know about the stealth of the whole operation.
A single scale simply fits where the shedded skin slipped
off on some rock across the way.
A single scale is unaware of the heat sensing tongue tickles.
A single scale simply feels the muscular tensing
on the underside/inside of the cold coil–a flexing.
A single scale in motion isn’t even noticed, much less consulted.
A single scale simply glides. It rides along as the whole snake slides
seeking out some warmer location.
A single scale won’t bite your calf.
But not a single scale will stop it.
in wordy wordiness,
Walter

Thought-provoking. Leaves me in search of an apropo metaphor.
